Welcome to the Chow With Chau eating out guide. This guide started its life a few years ago as the Cool Eating Out Guide, but I have decided that, instead of just naming the good restaurants that I would recommend people to go to, I should also include the ones that are not so good (to the downright awful) so that people can avoid them too. Currently the list includes mainly good restaurants for this historical reason, but I will be adding more and more restaurants.

So what's the difference between this guide and other guides that are on the internet? Firstly, I have visited all these eateries - I do not rely on hear-say or just passing comments from friends. Secondly, none of these eateries have given me a free meal or discounted meal in exchange for a good review on here (in fact, they wouldn't even know that they have been judged by me).

Bearing this in mind, there are loads of restaurants that are not featured in here. It is not my intention to have an exhaustive list of restaurants in here. But instead, it is a way for me to share my dining experience with you.

About the F.A.S.T. Scoring System

Each restaurant featured in this guide is scored out of a maximum of 20, and it is assessed in three areas: food, atmosphere and service. The scores are adjusted according to the price and class of the eateries - so I would not expect the food in a cheap restaurant to be of the same standards as one in an expensive restaurant, but they would be scored based on the value-for-money.

Food (maximum score = 10)
As the food is the most important aspect, this has been given a heavier weight in the scoring system.

Atmosphere (maximum score = 5)
The atmosphere is quite important and this will be judged on the cleaniness as well as the comfort and general decor of the place.

Service (maximum score = 5)
Service does not have to be formal, but it has to be good and friendly, and make the customers feel at home.

Total (maximum score = 20)
This is the sum of the food, atmosphere and service.

About the Thumbs

The thumbs next to each restaurant name is a quick indication of the total score. It ranges from 5 thumbs down to 5 thumbs up. It's just a quick way for you to see how good/crap a restaurant is.
