| Voted the best restaurant in the world in 2005, The Fat Duck is headed by chef Heston Blumenthal, and the cuisine is really a class of its own. This is the place where the art and science of cooking come together. The combination of ingredients in each dish is interesting, and at the end of a meal here you will feel that your taste buds have just completed a long and colourful journey. Bookings are accepted up to two months in advance, but make sure you do plan ahead if you want to secure a table here. | |||||

| If you can't get a table at the Fat Duck, this can be a compromise I suppose. This pub is owned by Heston Blumenthal, but don't expect the culinary magic tour at this place though. However, the food is good solid British cooking. Not exactly cheap by pub standard, and the portions are smaller than average pub dishes - eg the Lancashire hot pot was surprisingly tiny. The rump steak with bone marrow sauce and triple-cooked chips was nice enough - but the sauce was not that memorable, and the steak was overcooked (I asked for medium-rare, but was served more like medium/well-done). | |||||
