| Set in the middle of Dartmoor, this is not the easiest place to drive to; but to visit this restaurant in style, you can always come by helicopter! The surrounding was stunning. Amuse-bouche of salmon mousse and chicken boudin in mushroom sauce were not impressive, but the other courses did not disappoint. While the dishes lacked the wow-factor, they were all beautifully cooked and presented like pieces of artwork. The starter of Brixham Scallops with Thai puree and lemongrass foam was fresh and had a nice aroma that reminded me of the Far East. The pan-fried foie gras had the texture complimented by the caramelised walnuts, and the flavour balanced with orange braised chicory and marinated raisins in an orange sauce. While the venison was supposed to be "quite pink", it was on the overcooked side - still, that didn't ruin the flavour with the braised pork belly, red cabbage and fig and chestnut puree. The banana parfait with chocolate and lime sorbet was an interesting combination that worked well. The final dessert of crème brulee with caramelised pear, butterscotch and pear sorbet was unforgettable. Service was excellent. | |||||
