| Probably the most famous restaurant in Hangzhou, this eating institution offers an unbeatable view of the West Lake, and many famous classic dishes from this region of China can be found here, including "dongpo rou" (belly of pork braised in wine and a rich brown sauce). The orange stuffed with crabmeat is tasty but by far my favourite dish here is the Chinese ham cooked with sweetened lotus seeds - the ham was so tender that it literally melts in the mouth. | |||||

| There's actually a saying "In the city there's Tian Xiang Lou, Outside the city there's Louwailou", so this place is one of the top restaurants in Hangzhou, serving some of the classic dishes in the region, such as the Madame Sung's fish soup and Shrimps stir-fried in Dragon Well tea leaves. When in season, the duck with chestnuts is worth a try also. The food is of high quality and so you can't really go wrong here - just make sure you book a table before you go, or you may have a long wait. | |||||
