| All the battered fish here are cooked with beef drippings, and the result is good - Haddock is moist and covered in a nice crispy batter. The chips are a little on the soggy side, and the buttered bread is just pathetic - looking like they have been pulled out from a kid’s lunchbox. Whether you eat here or buy take-away, the fish and chips are always served in paper boxes. If the weather is good, it may be better to buy the takeaway and then find a nice spot by the harbour and enjoy the food - but many other people are probably thinking of the same thing anyway. | |||||

| The top end of the Rick Stein’s food empire. The carpaccio of hand-dived scallops was fresh but unfortunately the flavour was overpowered by too much pickled ginger. The crab, ginger and coriander broth with mussels was garnished with beansprouts and rice noodles, with too much fish sauce in there also - the result is that the broth was not as refreshing as it could have been, and the fish sauce made the dish a little too salty. The Singapore chilli crab came with a very generous serving of fresh crabs, and the red sauce of garlic, ginger and chilli complimented well. Not so sure about the side dish of beansprouts and noodles - the noodles all stuck together and did not look appealing at all. It probably would have made more sense to put the noodles underneath the crab, to soak up some of the delicious sauce. | |||||
