| If the Peking Duck at Quanjude fails to impress you, this restaurant on the 2nd Floor of the Park Hotel is worth checking out then. While the duck tastes good, it's not what I would call stunning but then the quality is definitely there. The restaurant opts for a non-tomato-sauce shrimp guoba (crispy rice) which is nice. | |||||

| The first branch of the famous veggie restaurant. No English menu here but even the Chinese menu is not of much use, as most of the dishes have fancy names. Still, if you just pick a few dishes, you will be rewarded with some of the tastiest vegetarian food around. A lot of the dishes are made from tofu, but there are a few surprises --- eg lotus roots in batter. | |||||

| The oldest teahouse in Shanghai, Huxingting is situated in the middle of the lake in Yuyuan. The ground floor is reserved for the regulars, and so head for upstairs--- but go before 11am if you don't want to be fighting for seats with the tourists. You can sample a variety of tea here, and they will give you some very delicious local snacks eg tea-leaf eggs, savoury glutinous rice balls, etc. | |||||

| A restaurant that has kept a lot of its old classic design and décor, the food here is good though not exceptional. One of the specialties here is the "hui" fish, which is a local fish with solid white meat, braised in brown sauce. In the garden there are several old train carriages, one was used by Soong Qingling (Madam Sun Yatsen) and the other by the Empress Dowager. | |||||

| A popular restaurant located right in the middle of the Yuyuan Bazaar. Foreigners will usually be ushered upstairs (Bill and Hilary Clinton included) but it's definitely more fun downstairs. As expected, this is a bustling place and so get here early. | |||||
